Established in 1950, Arly National Park is certainly one of the largest wildlife reserves in Burkina Faso and one of the largest natural parks in Africa.
Sharing borders with W National Park in Burkina Faso and Pendjari National Park in Benin, Arly National Park offers visitors exceptional wildlife richness in West Africa, both in terms of the number of animals that can be observed and the beauty of its landscapes. It features remarkable biodiversity, a completely wild environment, and the feeling of being immersed in unspoiled nature. Arly National Park lies within the Sudanian ecological zone. It is located in the Gobnangou Province, far from Ouagadougou. Covering an area of 217,930 hectares, the reserve serves as a refuge for a wide range of wildlife species.
The area of the park is characterized by the Gobnangou escarpment mountain range, as well as the Pagou and Tanga hills. The main permanent watercourse is the Pendjari River, while the semi-permanent rivers include the Singou, Douboudo, and Arly rivers. The vegetation is dominated by tree savannas and moderately dense wooded savannas. Arly National Park hosts a rich faunal diversity, mainly composed of large mammals and a wide variety of bird species.
