Role of the Executive Director

The Executive Directorate (ED) is the main body responsible for implementing the day-to-day management and executing the decisions and strategic directions of the Board of Directors in order to fulfill FSOA’s mission of providing sustainable financing for biodiversity conservation, in accordance with the adopted good governance frameworks.

It prepares and submits FSOA’s annual work plans for review by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director (ED) coordinates the implementation of these plans. The ED also plays a key role in the grant-making process. The Executive Director prepares technical and financial implementation reports and proposes and implements corrective measures where necessary.

The Executive Director works with a lean support team, including: Administrative and Accounting Manager Driver / Liaison Officer Development and Financial Advisors

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for:

  • Preparing FSOA’s annual and multi-year work plans and budgets (operations and grants), based on the financial resources allocated by the Board of Directors;
  • Carrying out all preparatory work for projects to be financed, including liaising with beneficiaries and consulting experts where necessary;
  • Actively participating in the analysis of funding requests within the Grant Allocation Committee, for which the ED serves as secretary;
  • Preparing, negotiating, and signing grant agreements with beneficiaries;
  • Conducting monitoring and evaluation activities for the grants awarded;
  • Consolidating and reporting monitoring and evaluation results to the Board of Directors, particularly with regard to impact analysis;
  • Ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of the physical implementation of projects financed by FSOA;
  • Maintaining relationships with beneficiaries, including monitoring eligibility conditions and overseeing technical and financial reporting on activities carried out with FSOA grants.
