Mobilization of funds
The Government of Benin expressed its interest to achieve the creation of the Foundation by entering the budget for the years 2008 2009 and 2010 a contribution which amounts to 11 billion CFA francs or 1.5 million Euros.
The German Government for years under the ProCGRN (Conservation Program and Natural Resources Management) through Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in 2003 and financial cooperation (KfW) supported the establishment of WASF through financial contribution now confirmed in the amount of 12 million Euros with technical and financial support from IUCN worth around 40,000 Euros to start from October 2009.
The WASF also benefited from fundraising FEM / GEF and IDA (World Bank), the total amount of USD 6.9 million including 1.9 million US dollars from the GEF and US $ 5 million IDA.
The Roundtable 2008 confirmed the interest of key partners such as AFD because of the exceptional nature of the WAP space in terms of biodiversity.
Efforts to mobilize funds from other actors need to be strengthened and targeted. The need to adopt a systematic and proactive approach to innovative sources especially the private sector should be emphasized.
Thanks to these funds WASF has already been able to finance field activities on the basis of an Operations Manual ensuring a transparent and fair distribution of incomes.
